How to Handle a Life Threatening Emergency

If you ever experience an unresponsive individual please take these steps to try and ensure their safety before emergency medical personnel arrive.

STEP 1

Call 9-1-1, then speak to the individual with a loud tone. If you know the patient’s name keep repeating a few times to see if you get a response.

STEP 2

Place one of your hands on the patient’s forehead and two fingers under their chin, then tilt their head back gently and lift their chin.

STEP 3

Check for breathing and if respiration has stopped, please begin CPR immediately. If you are unsure how to do CPR, please visit this page from the RED CROSS.
